Mourning

There was once a man she loved. A man she was willing to open her heart to.
Then fate got in the way. Fate took away the only man she would ever choose.
Nobody knows this but her. And every year, in the anniversary of the day she proposed to him, she still mourns him, staring emptily at the one thing that still survives of him, while her Irritator also suffers her master's sorrow.

So yeah. inspiration for this came while musing what would happen with our relationship and why she kept me shut out.
And then I came up with this. Why not? Why not give the Amazon tribe's foremost action girl a tragic backstory? And it also provided me with a way of exploring more of their society and relationships.
Within the Amazons, it is always the woman who chooses the man. Men have no right to choose their partner, but they can turn down a woman's marriage proposal, if they do not wish to be mates with that specific woman.
By the way, in their culture, female beauty is defined by strength, cunning and prowess. A woman who has proven herself as a capable warrior/hunter is considered by far more desirable than a (otherwise attractive) clumsy or weak one. Given that girls are in charge here, it seemed logical to me that they were less influenced by the phenotypes as a measure of beauty, and more about the actual usefulness of the person.
