Description
A Tyrannosaurus attacks a lone Lambeosaurus laticaudus in what today is the territory of Coahuila, Mexico. Despite the herbivore's large size, the Tyrannosaurus has the advantage and will probably be digesting a fresh meal by the end of the day.
Lambeosaurus ("Lawrence Lambe's lizard"), was one of many hadrosaurid dinosaurs with a head crest formed by an extension of its nasal bones and the fusion of other skull bones. The fact that the nasal passages extended into the crest suggest that it acted as a resonating chamber, possibly allowing for a complex form of auditive communication. A particularly large hadrosaurid from Mexico has been tentatively assigned to this genus, but the lack of skull remains make it impossible to be sure if it really was a Lambeosaurus. Aside from this, it may very well have been the largest lambeosaurine dinosaur, with an estimated length of 15 metres.
I was inspired by the news of fossil remains of what possibly is a Tyrannosaurus in Chihuahua, and that national territory has produced rather large species of hadrosaurids (Kritosaurus sp. and "Lambeosaurus" laticaudus). Since no remains of L. laticaudus' skull have been found, I tried to make its head a mix between the two other known species of Lambeosaurus, L. lambei and L. magnicristatus.
===============================================================
Edit: Apparently, while I was distracted, a genus was assigned tom the "Lambeosaurus" laticaudus specimen. Now it's in an entirely new genus, named Magnapaulia.
So now it's a Tyrannosaurus attacking a Magnapaulia.
